Forbidden Rice, Roasted Beet & Kale Salad, Tell Congress: IxNay On AriffsTay, Lotsa Good News, New Sign, Spring Garden Pix
More and more cracks are appearing in Trump's facade just three months into his presidency. Plus a call in action to reject tariffs, a delicious salad, and tons of good news.
Hi folks,
Between my organization’s rally/advocacy day to put People Over Plastic in New York State tomorrow, my son’s birthday, and hanging out with our family who are visiting from overseas, this is a whirlwind of a week for me.
When I have time, I’ve been outside, weeding, raking, mulching, trimming, and planting. It’s so gratifying.

More cracks are appearing in Trump’s White House and the resistance is growing. There were over a thousand protests across the country on May 1 with hundreds of thousands participating. I predict his popularity will crater once prices increase due to his tariffs. Scroll down for lots more good news.
I’ve been working on a new “Know Your Parasites: - Ticks, Worms, Billionaires” protest sign that’s inspired by the Everyone Hates Elon movement in London. An aside: drawing faces is HARD! (Get sign ideas here.🪧)
This sign feels extra relevant since our area has been crawling with ticks again recently - we found, not one, but TWO crawling up our front door. The pic below of a tick being bitten by a smaller tick is extra special.🩸

Onward,
Eve
EAT: Forbidden Rice, Roasted Beet & Kale Salad
This is a gem of a salad. Forbidden rice is a special dark purple - almost black - variety of rice that was apparently so nutritious and tasty that it was reserved for royalty only in the not-so-distant past. Loaded with antioxidants, it has a lovely, nutty flavor and a toothsome, slightly chewy texture. Sweet roasted beets and fresh, mineral-tasting kale are tossed in a simple dressing of garlic, apple cider vinegar, olive oil and whole grain mustard and topped with some crunchy toasted pecans. Hearty and delicious.

ACT: CALL ON CONGRESS TO BLOCK TRUMP’S TARIFFS 📞

On April 2, Trump issued a new national emergency declaration and used it to unilaterally impose sweeping tariffs on nearly every major US trading partner. The economy (and our poor retirement accounts) reacted accordingly to this Trump-induced chaos. Unless Congress acts now to block the tariffs and stop Trump’s authoritarian power grab, we’re all gonna pay dearly. Call Congress today to demand that they stop Trump’s tariffs. Get numbers and scripts here.📲

Constituents in Charlotesville, VA held a well-attended empty chair townhall that their GOP Rep. John McGuire was too afraid to attend.
This was the scene in GOP Rep. Mike Lawler’s (NY-17) wildly unpopular town hall when they forced an older woman to leave, despite the crowd chanting “let her stay” and then booing loudly.
